SECOND GRADE
Math: EnVision Math, Scott Foresman & Addison-Wesley -
EnVision Math focuses on conceptual development through repetitive teaching. EnVision Math uses a multisensory approach with lots of manipulatives to reach all learners.
Handwriting: FCS Elementary utilizes the Hand Writing Without Tears program that follows students throughout elementary school. The developmental approach allows children to sing, dance, color, and build their ways into learning to write. The hands on approach are used to build a strong foundation of early literacy success.
Social Studies: Our America by Judy Hull Moore, Animated Hero Classics video series by Living History Production -
The second grade Social Studies curriculum is published by A Beka Book Productions. Students discover how God guided the early Americans in the building of our country. Second graders also learn basic geography skills, with an emphasis on learning the location and names of the fifty states.
Spelling: Working Words in Spelling, Book C -
Our Spelling curriculum focuses on learning high frequency word clustered by vowel patterns. The number of words in a list increases throughout the year. In second semester we introduce dictation sentences in which the students use multiple high-frequency words they have studied.
Bible: ACSI Bible- Grade Two -
Second Grade Bible curriculum focuses on Bible characters and their positive traits that we can emulate. They will learn about thirty-six different traits and seventeen different Bible “heroes”.
2nd Grade General Music -
The 2nd Grade Music program concentrates on musical concepts such as rhythm, pitch and note reading using Boomwhackers as our primary focus. Boomwhackers allow the children to be involved with musical concepts while improving large motor skills and hand eye coordination. The students perform at the Christmas and Grandparents Day programs.

Our Reading curriculum contains selection from many different genres of literature. Phonics is taught systematically through the use of fictional characters that represent letters. Christian character traits are also woven in with story comprehension.
