FOURTH GRADE

Bible: Fourth grade uses the ACSI Bible curriculum which gives us an overview of the Doctrines. Our goal is that each student develops the mind of Christ, godly character, and a daily dependence on God. The students memorize a weekly verse that relates to the unit we are studying.

Reading: Fourth grade reading curriculum emphasizes and develops word recognition skills and builds comprehension. It is designed to meet the needs of the individual student, foster a love for literature, and encourage eager readers.

Language Arts: English: Bob Jones University - Spelling: Great Source - Vocabulary: Sadlier/Oxford - Bi-weekly spelling and vocabulary word lists are taken directly from the curriculum. Tests given weekly. Correct grammar skills, organization of ideas, composing thoughts, and writting effectively are learned through the BJU English curriculum.

NC History: Horizons NC: Harcourt - This curriculum gives an appreciation of the role that NC played in the history of America. It emphasizes the contribution of the state's people, resources, and cultural diversity within the state. An overview is given presenting the differences that exist across the state in landforms, economics, and populations.

Science: Systems: A Purposeful Design - ACSI - The curriculum is designed for the student to investigate matter and energy while being introduced to the study of geology and astronomy. We also review oceanography and plant life.

Math: Envision Math: Foresman/Wesley - This curriculum includes mathematical processes, such as problem solving, reasoning, communication, connections and representations, which are infused throughout all lessons. Weekly math tests are given to ensure mastery.

PE: The upper Elementary School classes (4th-5th) have PE twice a week. The classes are devoted to fitness, skill development and application of those skills in game situations. The third day is devoted to fitness in the form of the Mileage Club walk/run program.

Music: Fourth grade students continue to explore musical concepts through our Beginning Band I and Chorus class. During this year, students are encouraged to master note reading and basic rhythm as well as being introduced to basic articulation, dynamics and embochure. Students perform at the Christmas, Grandparent's Day and Spring Concert programs.
