Science
I have been teaching at FCS since September 2007. I have
a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Carolina
University where I studied Anthropology and Biology. I
am working on my 4th year of teaching. I have
experience in teaching high school Biology, Anatomy and
Physiology Honors, and Physical Science. I have also
taught 5th-8th grade Science along
with 7th grade Math. I have been married for
almost 5 years now. We have two adorable children –
Landon who is 2 and Alexis who is 6 months. I feel very
blessed to be working at FCS. I have taught in both
public and private schools, and I enjoy teaching in
private schools where I can worship and glorify God. As
a teacher, one of my favorite verses is Proverbs 19:20-
“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may
gain wisdom for the future”.

I
teach 7th and 9th grade Physical
Science at FCS. Physical Science is the basics of
Physics and Chemistry. Students will be learning about
motion, forces, waves, elements, organic chemistry,
nuclear chemistry, matter, atoms, chemical reactions,
simple machines, energy, thermodynamics, electricity and
magnetism. You may contact me by email at
awalters@fayettevillechristian.com.
The 7th graders will be using 4 text books:
“Motion, Forces, and Energy”; “Electricity and
Magnetism”; “Chemical Building Blocks”, and “Chemical
Interactions”. These 4 books are part of the Science
Explorer collection published by Pearson Prentice Hall.
9th graders will be using “Physical Science:
Concepts in Action”, which is from Prentice Hall as
well. The Science books we use are secular due to the
fact that we are training and preparing students for
college. Biblical understanding will come along with
scientific information where it is appropriate.

All students should have a calculator, red pen, pens/pencils,
loose leaf paper and a 3 ring binder. Inside the binder should
be 4 dividers: Homework/Class work, Tests/Quizzes, Notes, and
Handouts. In the very front of the first divider should be their
warm-ups. Almost every day as soon as the students enter class
they are to work on their warm-up, which reviews materials from
the previous day. There is to be absolutely no talking during
class unless a students has been given permission or we are
having a discussion. On lab days there is to be no food, drinks,
or candy/gum in class. Students are to enter the classroom in an
orderly fashion.
|
|
There is to be no horse-playing during lab, in the halls outside
the classroom or inside the classroom. (especially during lab).
Students are to stay on task at all times. Consequences for
misbehavior are as follows: warning, private discussion between
student and teacher after class (not in front of the other
students), email or call home to parents, detention, or sent to
an administrator for further actions.

Grading is as follows:
–

7th grade, tests count 50%, quizzes count 20%, labs
count 20%, and Class work/homework count 10%. For 9th
grade, tests count 40%, quizzes count 30%, homework, class work,
and labs count 20%, and class participation counts 10%. |
