9TH GRADE LITERATURE
Ninth grade English is a comprehensive course, which includes the study of literature genres, writing techniques and conventions, vocabulary development and grammar. Students will examine and become familiar with the five basic literary genres: short story, novel, non-fiction, drama, and poetry. Students will develop oral, reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. The goal of the course is to develop students’ reading and writing skills and encourage an appreciation for literature.
ENGLISH II AND ENGLISH II HONORS
English II covers short stories, poetry, and dramas. We read Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and the play Antigone. English II also covers the novel A Tale of Two Cities and the Honors class reads Frankenstein. The students will have to write a research paper that will have a history topic and a history grade also. SAT Vocabulary will be covered and quizzed on every week.
ENGLISH III AND ENGLISH III HONORS
English III consists of different periods of history and the stories and autobiographies that comes from the different time periods such as the beginnings, modernism, realism, and contemporary literature. The students will read The Scarlet Letter and the honors class also reads the play The Crucible. SAT Vocabulary will be covered and quizzed on every week.
ENGLISH 111
This is a college expository writing course sponsored by FTCC. Students will review grammar/mechanics and will write several different types of essays. A research paper is required.
ENGLISH 113
Students will primarily study literature-based research. In this course, students study short fiction, drama, and poetry. They write essays on literary works and are also required to write a literature-based research paper.
